Lions continue conference win streak with win over Defiance

LOCATION: Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field (Defiance, OH)

THE BASICS:

The Lions had a strong first half to give them a 3-0 lead going into halftime. The Lions held their opponents to 5 shots and won the match 5-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lions pounced on the Yellow Jackets in the early minutes of the match. Kaylan Gruber (Harrison, OH / Harrison) found the back of the net in the 2nd minute to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead. The Lions continued to take shots on the goal and Madeline Rechel (Harrison, Ohio / Harrison) connected with the goal in the 11th minute of the game on an assist from Hannah Schloemer (Lawrenceburg, IN / East Central) to put the Lions up two points. 48 seconds later Rechel would find the net yet again from a Gruber assist to stun the Yellow Jackets and put the Lions up 3-0. The Lions defense would control the tempo throughout the first half, leading to a 3-0 halftime score. The second half was slow as neither team was able to make a strong play at the goal. The Lions held the Yellow Jackets to two shots in the second half but only took four shots for themselves. The Mount didn't let up and would keep the pressure on Defiance going into the final minutes but weren't able to find the goal again. The Lions would defeat the Yellow Jackets 3-0 to continue their conference win streak.
