The Lions continue conference win streak with big win over Manchester

LOCATION: Schueler Field (Cincinnati, OH)

THE BASICS:

The Lions women's soccer team opened up the first match of a double header against the Manchester Spartans. The Lions stunned the Spartans with two quick goals in the first half. The Lions erupted in the second half and would win big to continue their conference win streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lions opened up the match with a quick goal in the 3rd minute to stun the Spartans. Stefanie Autenrieb (Cincinnati, Ohio / Seton) connected with Jodie Weimer (Cleves, OH / Taylor) to secure the Lions first goal. The Lions wouldn't waste any time getting back on the board. Kaylan Gruber (Harrison, OH / Harrison) scored a nice goal on a Madeline Rechel (Harrison, Ohio / Harrison) in the 10th minute to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. The Mounts defense kept the pressure on the Spartans, only allowing 2 shots during the first half. At halftime the Lions celebrated the careers of three seniors, Taylor Murphy (Batavia, OH / Batavia), Alley Schmidt (Aurora, IN / Lawrenceburg), and Kaylan Gruber. All three have been essential pieces to the Lions team during their time at the Mount and the Lions will hate to see them go. The Lions continued their momentum into the second half. Paige Mersmann (Florence, KY / Boone County) scored a goal in the 61st minute on another pass from Autenrieb to put the Lions up three. Another Mersmann goal on an Etelle Nfor (Frankfort, Ky / Western Hills) assist keeps the Lions scoring streak going. Autenrieb finds a goal for herself in the 71st minute on a Haylie Brown (Sunman, IN / East Central) assist to put the Lions up 5-0. The final goal of the night was scored by Madeline Scherpenberg (Cincinnati, OH / Mother of Mercy) in the 81st minute, giving the Lions a 6-0 victory over the visiting Manchester Spartans.

LIONHEARTED PERFORMANCE:

Mersmann scored two goals in the Lions victory to earn the LionHearted Performance. The Lions defense was spectacular in the match, only allowing six shots in the match.
