Lions tie in non-conference match-up against Albion

Location: Davis Athletic Complex (Albion, MI)

The Basics: The Lions traveled to Albion, MI to take on the Albion Britons in a non-conference match. The Britons were able to strike first early in the first half but the Lions quickly countered. Neither team was able to score in the second half which led to overtime. The Lions battled in overtime but neither team was able to find the net again, resulting in a 1-1 tie.

How it Happened:

This match was a show of strong defense between the two teams. Albion was able to get on the board first from an unassisted goal in the 11th minute. The Lions didn't waste any time and were able to find the net in the 12th minute on a goal from Kaylan Gruber (Harrison, OH / Harrison). The Lions defense was outstanding for the rest of the half and went into halftime knotted at one. The Mount was aggressive to start the second half with multiple attempts on goal. Albion continued to challenge the Lions defense but goalie Maddie Muterspaw (Middletown, OH / Middletown) kept them at bay. Both teams had multiple opportunities at the goal but weren't able to capitalize in the second half, leading to overtime. In the first overtime half both teams battled to get the golden goal. There were multiple shots but none were able to connect, leading to a second overtime. Albion controlled the tempo in the second half but the Lions defense countered all of their attacks. Neither team was able to score in both overtimes so the match resulted in a 1-1 tie.

Standouts:

Gruber scored her second goal of the season as she continues to lead the Lions on offense. The Lions defense was spectacular throughout the match, only allowing their opponents to one goal throughout the match.
