LEXINGTON, Ky - The Mount St Joseph women's lacrosse team travelled on Saturday to take on the Pioneers of Transylvania University in their last regular season conference game of the year before tournament play. The Lions would strike first in the game, taking a early lead before the Pioneers would take control of the game and run with it, ultimately defeating The Lions 22-2.
The Lions would score first as Megan Dancer (Springboro,Ohio/Springboro) would find the back of the net off of a Brianna Brannon (Cincinnati,Ohio/Seton) assist just over a minute into the game, giving The Lions an early 1-0 lead. The Pioneers would immediately answer back, tying the game up at 1-1. The Lions were unable to keep up with the Pioneers offensive attack as the Pioneers would go on and score 15 more goals before the end of the first half. Entering the half The Lions trailed the Pioneers 16-1.
The Pioneers would continue to add to their score during the second half of play. They would score three more goals before The Lions were able to score again. Megan Dancer would again get the goal for The Mount, this time off a free position shot, making the score 19-2 in favor of the Pioneers. The Lions would give up three more goals before the final buzzer rand, signaling the end of the game. The final score read Mount St. Joseph 2, Transylvania University 22.
With a loss, The Lions would end the season with a 4-10 overall record and a 3-3 HCLC record. The Lions will travel back down to Transylvania University on Wednesday, May 1st as they take on the Pioneers again. Wednesday's match up will be the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference Semifinals, the game is set to begin at 7PM.
