It was an incredible weekend for the MSJ Cross Country team at the 2018 Asbury University Invitational. Though it was one of the toughest courses they have run with extreme hills, both the Men and Women's teams were able to place 4th! While the morning started out cold and rainy, the sun broke through the clouds just before the start of the first race.

First up at 11 AM was the women's 5K. The Lions were able to get an astounding four runners in the top 20. Senior Maria Waters led the pack, placing first with a time of 20:49.07! Freshman Kaitlyn Sharp and Senior Julia Cason placed 13th and 14th with times of 23:09.13 and 23:21.65 respectively, and Freshman Emily Salmons, who placed 17th, finished close behind them with a time of 23:28.04. Great Race Ladies!

Next, the men ran their 8K at noon. By now the sun had heated up the course significantly, and the men were able to use that to their advantage. Sophomore Matthew Bruner led the team with a time of 30:32.74, finishing in 19th place. Freshman Trevor Levi came next, placing in 24th with a time of 30:53.46. Seniors Kevin Polking and Chad Mason followed closely behind with times of 31:22.22 and 31:46.90, placing in 26th and 28th respectively.

Above all, it was a great way to end the season! Every single runner gave their all on that course, and in every race they have run this year. This weekend the Lions are headed to Blue River Memorial Park in Shelbyville, Indiana for the HCAC Championship Meet, where they will be ready to pounce. LET'S GO LIONS!
