Lions Tie the Knights of Kentucky Christian in Double OT

Lions Tie the Knights of Kentucky Christian in Double OT

Location: Schueler Field (Cincinnati,  OH)

The Basics:

The Lions hosted the Knights of Kentucky Christian University. The first half ended with the Lions ahead 1-0. The Knights evened the score early in the second to 1-1. The first overtime can and went in nail biting fashion with no goals and an intro into the second overtime. Second overtime reflected the first with neither team being able to snag the victory with the final score ending in a tie of 1-1.

How it Happened:

The first half started with each team taking their shots and trying to be the first to take the lead.  The Knights received a foul in the box which led a Mount player to the line for a penalty kick. The penalty kick was blocked but Joshua Bailey (Winchester, KY / George Rogers Clark) came in with the rebound and knocked the ball right past the goalie for the Mount's first goal of the game. The Lions were able to hold the lead and go into halftime with the score of 1-0.

The second half started and Kentucky Christian got a quick goal to bring the game back to even at 1-1. The atmosphere was electric as the Lions and the Knights exchanged close shot after close shot. Neither team was able to take the lead when regulation time came to a close. Leading into overtime where the first team to score take home the win.

The Lions immediately went on the attack looking for the sacred golden goal to wrap up tonight's match. Each team has too many close calls to imagine but still neither team was able to break the barrier down taking us into double overtime.

Second overtime resembled the first with each team playing their heart out and having the chance to win the game but neither making that dream a reality.  We end the game with a tie score of 1-1.

The stand out for tonight's game was freshman Bailey who secured his first goal in his collegiate career giving the Mount an early lead and taking the team into overtime.
