Lions Come Home With a Victory

ANDERSON, Ind - The Mount St. Joseph University men's lacrosse team were on the road Saturday as they travelled to take on the Ravens of Anderson University in their final regular season conference game. The Lions came out victorious against the Ravens as they defeated them 18-7. During the games The Lions team record of most goals scored in a single game was broken by Kevin McClanahan(Madeira,Ohio/Madeira). 

The Lions would strike first against the Ravens as TJ Ahrens (Cincinnati,Ohio/St. Xavier) would score off an assist by Collin Matt (Jamestown,Ohio/Greenview), taking an early 1-0 lead. Kevin McClanahan would then score his first two goal of his record breaking night, scoring back to back with one being unassisted and one off of an assist by Collin Matt. The Lions would be leading the Ravens 3-0. The Ravens would get past The Lions defense and get themselves a goal before Kevin McClanahan would get his third goal of the game, earning himself a hat trick and making the score 4-1. Before the end of the first quarter both teams would add one more goal each to their totals. For The Lions Chucky Lipps (Cincinnati,Ohio/Elder) would get an unassisted goal, making the score 5-2 in favor of The Lions heading into the second quarter.

TJ Ahrens would get things started for The Lions again in the second quarter with a goal off an assist by Kevin McClanahan just 30 seconds into play. The Ravens would answer back with a goal of their immediately after, making the score 6-3 in favor of The Lions. The Lions and the Ravens would go back and forth one more time as Chucky Lipps would get his second unassisted goal for The Mount. The Lions would then go on a four goal scoring streak as Tony Behler (Cincinnati,Ohio/Elder) and Kevin McClanahan would both get a pair of goals each entering the half. As the halftime buzzer went off The Lions led the Ravens by a score of 11-4.

Both teams would show up defensively in the beginning of the third quarter as most of the half would go by before either team would get a goal. Tony Behler would find the back of the net and record his third goal of the game, earning himself a hat trick. The Ravens would get themselves one goal during the third quarter before The Lions would continue to find the back of the net. Kevin McClanahan would score three goals in the final four minutes of the game, all unassisted, as he recorded his second hat trick of the day. Collin Matt would also get a goal during this time, scoring his one and only goal of the game. As the game entered its final quarter of play The Lions held a astounding 16-5. 

The fourth quarter would see both teams get a pair of goals. Bo Kuenning (St. Marys,Ohio/St. Marys Memorial) would get his first career goal off an assist by Kevin McClanahan. The Ravens would get their final two goals on The Lions in the middle of the quarter, as they were unable to catch up to The Lions lead. With less than five minutes to go, Kevin McClanahan would score an unassisted goal and record his ninth goal of the game. This goal would break the Mount St. Joseph men's lacrosse team record for most goals scored in a single game and put Kevin McClanahan's name in the record books. With time ticking down The Lions would ultimately defeat the Ravens of Anderson University 18-7. 

The Lions will play their next game on the road on Wednesday, May 1st against Transylvania University in the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference post season play. The game is scheduled to begin at 4PM. Continue to checkout for more updates on The Lions as they enter postseason play!
