Richmond, IN – The Mount St. Joseph men's basketball team traveled to Richmond, IN to take on the Quakers of Earlham College in a conference matchup. The Quakers controlled most of the first half but the Lions were able to close the gap before the half. Earlham continued their momentum into the second half and were able to slide past the Lions with a final score of 67-59.
In the first half of the match it was a back and forth effort from both teams, neither able to secure a strong lead. Halfway through the first half the Quakers got the hot hand and started to break away from the Lions. As the half progressed the Lions chipped away at the lead and by the end of the half the Lions were leading the Quakers 29-27.
The Lions continued to build their lead early in the second half but Earlham continued to stay aggressive. With 10 minutes remaining in the game the Quakers started to turn the tide and tied the score. With the match tied at 57 with two minutes remaining the Lions made a costly turnover that would eventually lead to their downfall. After a few made baskets by Earlham, the Lions were defeated 67-59.
Devin Young (Crestwood, KY / South Oldham) lead the charge for the Lions with a career high 28 points and 12 rebounds. Shaun Sullivan (Louisville, KY / DeSales) also chipped in 12 points and four rebounds in the Lions defeat.
