CARMEL, Indiana - The Mount St. Joseph football team opened the season this past Saturday with a 41-27 victory over the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva College. In doing so the team performed well enough to sweep this weeks Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors.
Chaiten Tomlin (Mt. Orab, Ohio/Western Brown) was named the HCAC Offensive Player of the Week as he led the Lions offensive, like he has done throughout his storied career at The Mount. On the day Tomlin was 25 of 37 through the air, for 385 yards and 4 scores, adding a rushing touchdown.
Sean Sullivan (Covington, Ky./Holmes) was named the HCAC Defensive Player of the Week, all Sullivan did was lead the nation in total tackles last week with 19. He also registered two tackles for loss and a forced fumble in the Lions win.
Spencer Dufresne (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) was named the HCAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his perfect performance against Geneva. The senior place kicker when 2-for-2 on field goal attempts including a 44 yarder, and 5-for-5 on extra points.
