Baseball falls to Wabash in non-conference matchup

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Mount St. Joseph University baseball team traveled to Goodrich Ballpark to face off with the Little Giants of Wabash College. The Lions scored first with a run in the first inning but could not slow down the Little Giant bats as Wabash came away with a 10-1 victory.

Four different Wabash batters recorded a two-hit game enroute to their 23rd win on the season. Jared Wolfe and Eric Chavez led the charge with 2 RBI's a piece.

Jacob Hughes (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) made his fourth start this season and moves to 0-4 in the 2018 campaign. Despite the loss, none of Hughes runs were earned, resulting in a final line of 3 2/3 innings, 2 strikeouts, eight hits, and 7 unearned runs.

In the top of the 1st inning, Simon Schaefer (Cincinnati, OH / St. Xavier) reached and advanced by a throwing error by the Little Giants second baseman. Garrett Hogan (Hamilton, OH / Badin) advanced Schaefer to third with a groundball to the first baseman. Up next was Nathan Hunter (Vevay, IN / Switzerland County) who drove Schaefer home with a single to right center.

The Lions currently stand in 8th place in the conference with a record of 4-7, and two games behind the Rose-Hulman Engineers for 5th place. Overall the Lions move to 13-17 on the year.

The Mount will play two this Saturday at Franklin College who is currently in first place in the HCAC. First pitch is scheduled for game one at 12 PM and game two at 3 PM.
