The Lions are defeated by Rose-Hulman in five set battle

LOCATION: Harrington Center (Cincinnati, OH)

THE BASICS:

The Lions matched up against the fighting Engineers of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in another conference game. The Lions came out strong in the first two sets and earned victories but couldn't find their way in the final three sets, resulting in a 3-2 loss to Rose-Hulman.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Rose-Hulman was able to earn the first few points at the start of the match but the Lions slowly found their way back into the match. Both teams battled to take the lead going into the final points but a four point service run from Karlie Schell (West Harrison, IN / Franklin County) and a kill from Hannah Meckstroth (North Bend, OH / Taylor) would give the Lions the first set 25-22. Schell continued her service run into the second set, giving the Lions a 3-0 lead. The Fighting Engineers cleaned up their play and kept the score neck and neck going into the final points. Rose-Hulman took the lead but a three point service run from Cailey Plemmons (Oxford, OH / Talawanda) tied the match back up. Schell made her way back to the service line and aced a defended to put the Lions up one. After a Rose-Hulman timeout, Schell stepped up and made another serve and the Lions won the set 25-23 on a Rose-Hulman attacking error. The Lions would struggle to find their offense in the third set, resulting in an early deficit. The Lions weren't able to string together a run, resulting in a 25-17 loss. The fourth set told the same story, as the Lions weren't able to capitalize on their opportunities. The Lions battled in the final points to close the gap but the deficit was too much, dropping the fourth set 25-18. Rose-Hulman continued their roll, not allowing the Lions to gain any momentum in the fifth set. The Lions weren't able to clean up their errors and dropped the final set 15-9 and the match 3-2.
