The Lions faced the Saints of Thomas Moore College in a Wednesday night match. The Lions struggled in the first two sets but picked up their play to pull out a win in the third set. After a tough battle in set four the Lions weren't able to come out with the win, dropping the match 4-1.
How it Happened:
The Lions struggled to find their energy going into the first set. Thomas Moore built a lead early and kept the Lions at bay for most of the set. The Mount made a late run but the deficit was too much as they would go on to lose the first set 25-13. The Lions struggles continued into the second set and found themselves down yet again. Thomas Moores offense gave the Lions problems the whole set and the Lions would drop the second set 25-16. The Lions picked up their offense in the third set and battled the Saints. Briana Looney (Harrison, OH / Harrison) turned the tide for the Lions midway through the set with a service run to put the Lions up. The Lions were able to win the third set on an attack error on Thomas More. The fourth set was back and forth with neither team able to build a strong lead. Thomas More found two points back to back halfway through the set and would keep the slight lead going into the final points. The Lions would drop the final set 25-20 and the match 3-1.
Looney led the charge on offense for the Lions with 13 kills and 4 blocks. Karlie Schell (West Harrison, IN / Franklin County) and Cailey Plemmons (Oxford, OH / Talawanda) protected the back row by picking up 16 and 13 digs, respectively.
The Lions travel to Tiffon, OH to take part in the No One Fights Alone Invitational at Heidelberg University. The Lions face Case Western Reserve first on Friday 9/21 at 6PM and then play two matches on Saturday 9/22. The first match will be against Heidelberg University at 10AM and follow that with another match against Otterbein University at 12PM.
