Women's Tennis gets first HCAC win at Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER, Indiana - The Mount St. Joseph women's tennis team traveled to N. Manchester, Indiana on Friday and came home with their first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory of the season. 

The Lions opened by taking two of the three doubles matchups. In number two doubles Jessica Burger (Milan, Ind./Milan) and Kelsey Knodell (Deleware, Ohio/Rutherford B. Hayes) won their matchup 8 sets to 4. In the third doubles match, freshman Katie Fellinger (North Bend, Ohio/Taylor) and Tessa Mayes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) teamed up to dominate to the tune of a 8-1 win. 

During the singles portion of the match, the Lions took 4-of-5 matches with one being canceled due to rain. Hanna Broerman (Okeana, Ohio/Badin) won a hard fought match at number two singles, going 6-3,6-4. Burger needed a third set tie break to win her match (6-3,4-6,12-10), Mayes won in the number six match (6-3,6-2). The most dominate effort for the Lions came in number 5 singles, where Fellinger continued her outstanding play, taking her match 6-1,6-4. 

The Lions will wrap up their season on Saturday, as they head to Defiance to take on the Yellow Jackets in an HCAC matchup.
