The Mount St. Joseph University women's lacrosse faced off against the undefeated Pioneers of Transylvania University. The Lions came out strong trying to ruin the Pioneers perfect season. The first half ended to a score of 13-1. The Mount tying the Pioneers in the second half bringing the final to 17-5.
How it Happened:
The score of the first half does not do justice for how hard the Lions played. Transylvania was not expecting the fight they got out of the Mount on Wednesday night. The Pioneers were able to get thirteen straight goals making it seem like the Lions may not get on the board but sophomore Brianna Brannon (Cincinnati, OH/ Seton) was the first to strike the match showing the the Lions has much more to offer then what was being shown. Bringing the halftime score to 13-1.
The Mount has been a second half team throughout the entire season. They were able to hold Transylvania to only four goals while scoring four more of their own. Maria Sams (Cincinnati, OH/ Oak Hills) and Courtney Gleason (Cincinnati, OH/ Seton) continued Brannon's lead at the beginning of the half. The Pioneers scored two goals before Gleason was able to snag her second goal of the game. Transylvania scored a pair of goals before Kara Marshall (Cleveland, OH/ Laurel) snuck a quick stick goal in with 45 seconds left in the game bringing the final score to 17-5.
Our Lions will compete in a conference matchup at home for Senior Day against Washington and Jefferson College Saturday 4/29 at 1:00 pm at Schueler Field (Cincinnati, OH).
