Lions get it done on the road to defeat the Saints

Location: Crestview Hills, Ky. (BB&T Field)

The Basics:

The Lions took on conference competitor Thomas More College in Tuesday night's game.  Mount St. Joseph's ladies showed great persistence in working together to stay in the game.  This game was close the whole way through, but the Lions were able to come out with the victory after a late goal to give them the win 9-8.

How it Happened:

The game started off rough for the Lions after allowing 2 goals from Thomas More.  Anna Thorner (Cincinnati, OH/ Mercy) was able to score first for the Lions about 7 minutes into the game to make the score 2-1. Thomas More then jumped to a 5-2 lead over the Lions in the middle of the first half.  Mount St. Joseph kept up the hustle, and with good teamwork they were able to cut the lead to 2 with a score of 6-4 going into halftime.

The Lions came out of halftime very determined.  They started the second half with a goal from Madie Long (Columbus, OH/ Hilliard Davidson) to make the score 5-6.  After two goals from Madie Long and Anna Thorner, the Lions tied the game up with the score at 7-7 with 17:14 left in the game.  Thomas More scored with 8:34 left to take the lead 8-7.  The Lions were not phased as they were able to score just one minute later to tie the game back up 8-8 with 7:45 left on the clock.  With time running down, Madie Long was able to seal the win for the Lions after scoring on a free position shot with only 0:39 left in the game.  This put the Lions ahead by 1 and won the game for Mount St. Joseph with a final score of 9-8.

Mount St. Joseph was able to get a lot of production from multiple players in their win over Thomas More.  The team was led by Anna Thorner, who had an amazing performance scoring 5 goals for the Lions.  Madie Long also had a successful time getting to the net, as she score 3 goals throughout the game to assist her team in the win.

Up Next:

The Lions will host Franklin College here on Schueler Field to take on the second ranked team in the conference on Thursday 4/20 at 7:00 pm.
