HANOVER, IN - The Mount St. Joseph University Lions traveled to Hanover College to take on the Panthers in one of their last conference matchups before tournament time. It was a close game for a majority of the game but The Lions could not hold on and finished the game with a loss and the score of 61-74.
In the first quarter the Panthers found a way to pull away and keep the lead away from The Mount. The Lions finished the quarter only being behind 2 points 13-15. They had the energy to continue into the second quarter and try to take the lead before halftime. In the second quarter the Lions kept up the fight and found ways to gain the lead two different times throughout the second quarter. It came down to two last second free throws that sealed the Lions halftime fate of trailing Hanover 29-32.
In quarter number three The Lions came out making two layups to regain the lead within the first minute of the quarter. The tables turned and The Mount was the team on top during almost the entire quarter. The Mount finished the quarter with the lead of 2 points and the momentum with the score 52-50. The Panthers were the team behind the eight ball when the buzzer rang signifying that quarter number four was about to begin. The Lions fought through the fourth quarter and maintained their energy level until the last few minutes of the game. In those last few minutes The Lions were only able to score another 4 points to the Panthers 17 points and this discrepancy is what lead to The Lions being defeated at the end of the game with the final score 61-74.
Three Lions helped keep the team stay in the game for as long as possible. Maddie Haberthy (Cincinnati, OH/ Mercy) led the team with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Lainee Studer (Pleasant Plain, OH/ Little Miami) was right behind with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. The final player that helped their team out was Aliyah Huff (Cincinnati, OH/ Roger Bacon) scored 12 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
