Lions win big against Centre College 71-47

CINCINNATI, OH - The Lions of Mount St. Joseph University hosted the Colonels of Centre College in the Harrington Center on a Saturday afternoon during winter break.

The first quarter was the a back to back battle between The Mount and Centre with the lead switching from team to team until The Mount found a way to get a last minute three pointer to finish the first quarter of the game ahead 17-14. The Lions separated themselves in the second quarter with four Lions achieving five or more points giving the Lions a halftime lead to 15 points!

As the second half began The Mount was feeling comfortable with the lead and let off the gas pedal allowing the Colonels to win the third quarter and holding our Lions to a nine point quarter diminishing their lead as they head into the last quarter of the game.

The Mount knew they could not afford another quarter like that so they picked up their game and dominated the last quarter of the game. They finished with a 20 point quarter holding Centre College to only five points to finish out the game. The Mount triumphed over Centre with 24 points separating the Lions with the final score of 71-47!

The Lions made the most out of the opportunities they were given getting 24 points off of Centre turnovers and that is the deciding factor of this game. The Lions were led offensively by three players. Sophomores Alehia Tucker (Covington, KY / Holy Cross) and Maddie Haberthy (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy) both recorded 17 points for the Lions and senior Lainee Studer (Pleasant Plain, OH / Little Miami) with a respectable 15 points herself.  Tucker fought hard at the rim and claimed 9 rebounds. Studer controlled the game with 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals.
