Lions defeat the Quakers of Earlham College

RICHMOND, IN - The Lions of Mount St. Joseph University traveled to Earlham College to take on the Quakers in the first game of this double header. The Mount was able to hold the lead throughout the game and secure another conference victory with a final score of 57-53.  

In the first quarter the Lions got off to a five point lead but the rest of the quarter was a back to back battle. The Quakers were only able to gain the lead one time throughout the quarter and it was short lived as The Mount was able to recover quickly and hold onto until the end of the quarter. The Lions found themselves trailing the Quakers at the beginning of the second quarter. Once the last six minutes hit The Mount found their stride and finished the half leading 32-26. 

The Lions continued to play the offensive during this quarter. It started off going back and forth between the two teams but the Lions never lost the lead. They followed that momentum to their biggest lead of the game of 13 points towards the end of third quarter before settling at an 11 point spread to bring quarter number three to a close with the score of 50-39.  

The fourth quarter belonged to the Quakers as the Lions found themselves outscored. The Mount was able to hold them off from ever taking the lead and when the buzzer rang at the end of regulation time the Lions had defeated the Quakers 57-53.

The star for the Mount was Alehia Tucker (Covington, KY / Holy Cross) with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. On the offensive end of the court was Maddie Haberthy (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy) earning 11 points helping the lead the Lions to victory. The defensive power house was Lainee Studer (Pleasant Plain, OH / Little Miami) with 7 rebounds, 2 steals and still managed to collect 10 points for The Mount.  

This win takes the Lions to a 4-3 record and a conference record of 2-2. The Lions next game will be Monday, December 17th at 3:00PM as they host the Barons of Franciscan University in the Harrington Center.  Continue to check MSJSports.com for more updates on the Lions 18-19 season!
