Mount St. Joseph falls to HCAC Competitor

The Basics:

Mount St. Joseph started the game off strong. They outscored Defiance in the first quarter to take a 16-6 lead. The Yellow Jackets fought back in the second quarter to decrease the deficit before halftime. The Lions lead Defiance 25-23 going into the locker room.  In the second half, the Yellow Jackets jumped in front. They outscored the Lions in the second half and were able to come out with a win. The Lions were defeated with a final score of 61-51.

How it Happened:

The Lions started the game off strong in the first quarter of play. They were able to jump to a lead early after starting the game off with a 14-2 run. Maddie Haberthy (Cincinnati, OH/ Mother of Mercy) was a huge spark for the offense early, as she was able to drain two threes to help increase the Lions lead. They ended the first quarter in the lead 16-6.  Defiance was able to fight back in the second quarter to get back in the game.  The Lions were outscored in the second 9-17 as the Yellow Jackets erased the Mount's lead.  The Lions would lead 25-23 going into halftime.  In the second half the Yellow Jackets started to take control of the contest.  They were able to jump ahead and hold their lead throughout the game to defeat the Lions with a final score of 61-51.  

The Standouts:

Haberthy led the Lions in scoring with a total of 16 points. She was also able to record 2 assists and 4 rebounds against the Yellow Jackets. Aliyah Huff (Cincinnati, OH/ Roger Bacon) and Lainee Studer (Pleasant Plain, OH/ Little Miami) were also able to score in double digits. Huff totaled 10 points, while Studer totaled 12 points. 

Up Next:

The Lions (8-7, 4-4) will travel to Hanover (10-5, 6-2) for another conference matchup. Tipoff is set for 7:30 PM on Wednesday, 1/14.
