Mount St. Joseph was able to take control of the game early after outscoring Spalding in the first quarter 19-13. After that the Lions were able to maintain their lead with great defensive play. They were able to stay ahead of Spalding and finish the game with a victory with a final score of 72-60.
How it Happened:
The Mount started off strong in the first quarter. The Lions were able to jump to a 9-3 lead over Spalding to set the tone and take the momentum. They continued to increase their lead, led by freshman Alehia Tucker (Covington, KY/ Holy Cross) who scored six points in the first quarter. The Lions looked to stay aggressive in the second quarter. They were able to keep a 10-point cushion for most of the quarter with help from players on their bench. Mackenzie Marcum (Mason, OH/ Kings) was able to sink a 3-point shot that really helped her team keep the momentum. The Lions would led 32-23 at halftime. In the second half, the Lions stayed aggressive. They were able to make it to the fourth quarter with a 10-point lead after Marcum went 2 of 3 from 3-point range in the third. The Lions were able to finish the game ahead of Spalding to improve their record to 3-1 with a final score of 72-60.
Alehia Tucker led The Mount in scoring with 16 points. She was also able to record an impressive nine rebounds and three steals in the Lions' win. Maddie Haberthy (Cincinnati, OH/ Mother of Mercy) also made a significant impact. She finished with 13 points, five assists, and four steals.
The Mount (3-1) will travel to Danville, KY, to take on Centre (3-1) on Tuesday, 11/28, at 7:00 PM.
