Mount St. Joseph struggled early dealing with the Hanover Panthers. The Lions struggled on the glass throughout the game being out rebounded 47-28. After a close first quarter, the Lions weren't able stick with the Panthers and Hanover was able to come out with a win 71-52.
How it Happened:
The first quarter started off as a close contest for both teams. The Lions struggled early on the boards as they were out rebounded by Hanover in the first half 26-13. The Lions were able to keep the score close going into the second quarter, only down by 6 points with Hanover leading 23-17. The second quarter the Lions struggled to produce on offense. Hanover took advantage during the offensive drought for the Lions and opened up their lead going into halftime to 41-27.
Coming into the second half, the Lions looked to get back in the game. Mount St. Joseph showed great hustle on defense and began moving the ball around on offense with crisp passes to give them better opportunities to score. Even with the Lions working hard to decrease the deficit, they trailed Hanover 60-38 going into the final quarter. The fourth quarter was controlled by Hanover as they continued to out rebound Mount St. Joseph. The Panthers were able to go home with a win over the Lions 71-52.
Brooklynn Sturwold had a big night for the Lions. She was able to shoot 3-7 from three point range and lead her team in points with 13 in the loss to the Panthers.
Mount St. Joseph looks forward to hosting Earlham College on Saturday 1/14/17 in the Harrington Center at 1:00 pm in another conference battle.
