Lions picked to finish fourth in MCVL preseason poll

Cincinnati, OH – The Mount St. Joseph University Lions were voted to finish 4th in the MCVL after a preseason coaches poll. The Lions finished the season in 4th place last year and were defeated by the Redmen of Carthage College in three sets in the first round of the MCVL tournament. It was the Lions third consecutive appearance in the MCVL Tournament.  After finishing the season 17-8 and 7-2 in conference the Lions look to continue their success in the upcoming season.

Carthage was voted to finish in first place with nine first place votes, followed by North Central College in second place with one first place vote. Loras College was picked to finish in third, followed by the Lions in fourth place.

The Lions will look upon their seniors to lead the team, starting with outside hitters Darrell Swanson (Las Vegas, NV / Arbor View) and Zack Storc (Columbus, OH / Bishop Watterson) who will be in their fifth year at the Mount. Middle Blocker Ben Holt (Cincinnati, OH / Roger Bacon) will be crucial in the Lions offense this year while also protecting the net. Expect the Lions freshman to step up all throughout the season, especially in the setter position.

The Lions will open up the season Thursday, January 17th in the Harrington Center at 7PM against Stevenson University. Continue to check MSJSports.com for updates on the Lions 2019 season!
