LOCATION: Cincinnati, OH

THE BASICS:

In a Saturday afternoon matchup the Lions hosted the Tigers of Wittenberg University. The Lions quickly defeated the Tigers in three straight sets to move their MCVL record to 7-0, good enough to clinch a spot in the MCVL tournament with two games to go.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In the first set against the Tigers the Lions got off to a quick 3-0 lead with two big blocks early in the set. The Tigers fought to bring the score back and kept up with the Lions for most of the set. With the set tied at 22 the Lions made their move on the Tigers. A kill from Zack Storc (Columbus, OH / Bishop Watterson) followed by an ace from Adam Williams (Chicago, IL / Mt. Carmel) gave the Lions set point. Andrew Chisholm (Cincinnati, OH / Oak Hills) finished off the set with a kill, final score 25-22. The Lions continued their momentum into the second set. The Lions protected the net well to limit the Tigers offense, earning points off of the Tigers errors. The Lions lead quickly grew throughout the set but Wittenberg rallied late. The Lions won the second set from a Wittenberg service error, with a final score of 25-21. The Mount traded points with the Tigers to start the third set but multiple errors from the Lions gave Wittenberg the lead. The Lions found themselves down 22-14 before they found their groove, scoring the next eight out of ten points to tie the score at 24. Both teams battled to take the advantage in the final points but a block from Chisholm and Darien Bradley (Las Vegas, NV / Arbor View) solidified the win for the Lions with a final score of 29-27.

THE STANDOUTS:

The Lions were led by Storc and Williams who both earned 7 kills. Williams also protected the net well with 3 solo blocks and 3 block assist.
