Tough weekend for the Lions in MCVL play

Location: Milwaukee, Wis. (Kern Center),  Kenosha, Wis. (Tarble Arena)

The Basics:

The Lions had a rough time trying to control the offense of both their opponents.  MSOE was able to get their guys together to win three straight sets after dropping the first one to the Lions.  This gave them the win 3-1.  In the game against Carthage, the Lions continued to struggle.  They lost to Carthage in three straight sets to end the weekend with two blemishes on their conference record.

Mount St. Joseph vs. MSOE:

The weekend started off with the Lions taking on MSOE on Friday 3/17.  The Lions looked good early.  They were able to maintain a lead and get some big kills by Alex Vohland (West Chester, OH/ Lakota West) to get the win in the first set 25-20.  After the first set things started to go downhill for the Lions.  MSOE was able to get a lead at the beginning of the set and the Lions were forced to fight to keep the game close.  MSOE was able to outlast the Lions and win the set 25-21.  MSOE took over the match after that.  They put together a strong series of offense at the end of the third set to beat the Lions 20-25.  Then in the fourth set, the Lions continued to contest the MSOE team.  It ended up being very close, but MSOE was able to take out the Lions in the final set 27-25 to get the overall win over Mount St. Joseph 3-1.

Mount St. Joseph vs. Carthage:

In the next game of the weekend for the Lions they faced Carthage College.  The Lions were able to keep the score close throughout the first set.  Carthage was able to go on a run to establish a lead, and was able to finish out the set beating the Lions 25-21.  Mount St. Joseph fought to get back in it during the second set.  The Carthage hitters were able to put together another series of points to put them ahead.  Carthage was able to maintain this lead and beat the Lions 25-17 in the second set.  The Lions went into the third set looking to stay competitive.  The offense for Carthage proved to be too much for the Lions once again.  They were able to end the match after defeating the Lions in the third set 25-20.
