Location: Schueler Field (Cincinnati, Ohio)
It was an even match for most of the game, both teams getting shots off and defending with everything they had. It wasn't until the 88th minute when Franklin was frantically trying to clear a ball out of their box, and one of their players accidentally kicks the ball into their net. The own goal by the Grizzlies gave the Lions the lead and the victory, bringing their overall record to 5-7-3 and 2-2-1 in the HCAC.
How it Happened:
Both teams fought very hard throughout the entire game. Shot after shot, save after save, it felt like an overtime game was guaranteed. The Mount kept the Grizzlies goalkeeper busy with a total of 25 shots, with Seth Freppon (Cold Spring, KY Newport Central Catholic) creating a lot of chances for the Lions. Midfielder Michael Huber (New Richmond, OH / New Richmond) played a great game with crucial steals and defense when the Mount needed them most. Those steals lead to chances and corner kicks, but we couldn't capitalize on them. With minutes to spare in the game, Cody Hacker (Cleves, OH / Harrison) crosses the ball into the box, and with bodies swarming, the ball found the foot of the Grizzlies defender, that lead to an own goal on their behalf. This goal pushed the Mount ahead and eventually leads to victory. Senior Joseph Glisson (Cincinnati, OH / Anderson) was the only yellow card of the game, coming in the 24th minute.
Goalkeeper Will Schwing (Greendale, IN / Lawrenceburg) had a fantastic game with 7 saves for the game. Franklin struggled to get shots off on the net but when they did, Schwing was always ready for their attack.
Rose-Hulman (9-4-1, 4-1) will visit the Mount (5-7-3, 2-2-1) on Wednesday the 18th at 7pm. Come out and support your Lions!
