Lions struggle against Thiel

Location: Alumni Stadium (Greenville, PA)

The Basics:

Mount St. Joseph fell to an early deficit at the beginning of the game.  After the first quarter Thiel was able to take a 5-0 lead.  Thiel continued to thrive offensively throughout the game.  They put up 9 goals in the third quarter that gave them control.  The Lions were not able to answer Thiel's explosive offense and were defeated with a final score of 20-3.

How it Happened:

The game started with the Tomcats showing off their offensive weapons.  They were able to score 5 unanswered goals in the first quarter to take the lead over the Lions.  The Mount was able to score their first goal of the day when Jesse Purdy (Lexington, KY/ Dunbar) was able to get past the defense to get to the net.  The Mount trailed at halftime with the score at 8-1.  In the third quarter, Thiel was able to get their offense going.  They totaled 9 goals to take a demanding lead over the Lions.  Purdy and Sean Burke (Covington, KY/ Covington Catholic) were able to put goals up on the board, but the Lions were ultimately defeated with a final score of 20-3.   


Purdy was able to produce 2 goals for the Lions throughout the game.  His offensive presence was able to get the Mount on the scoreboard to challenge the Tomcats.

The Lions (2-11, 2-6) will host their next ORLC competition this Wednesday, 4/25.  They will take on the Panthers of Hanover (6-8, 6-2) on Schueler Field at 7:00 PM.
