Mount St. Joseph would get off to a slow start against Bethany on Saturday afternoon, going down 4-2 after the first quarter.  However, the Lions would rebound with a huge second quarter to take the lead.

The Lions would come out strong on offense in the second quarter, scoring seven goals in the period.  John Ewing (LaPorte (Indiana) / LaPorte), Kevin McClanahan, and Connor McPhail (Nashville, TN / Father Ryan) all scored two goals in the second, pushing the Lions ahead in the game.  The Mount St. Joseph defense picked up their intensity in the second quarter as well, allowing just one Bethany goal.  The Lions would go into halftime winning by a score of 9-5.

The third quarter saw both teams score three goals, allowing the Lions to enter the final frame with the lead.  The Mount St. Joseph defense would not play well in the fourth quarter, allowing seven Bethany goals.  However, the Lion attack would be strong enough to score five goals of their own, allowing Mount St. Joseph to escape with their first win of the season, 17-15.

LIONS AT THE PEAK:

Kevin McClanahan played great all day for Mount St. Joseph, scoring six goals for the Lions.  He was also able to add an assist and finished the game responsible for seven points.
