OXFORD, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph University men's golf played host to eight other schools for their annual State Line Shootout. For the first time The State Line Shootout was held in Oxford, Ohio at Indian Ridge Golf Club. The Lions played well enroute to a second place finish in their home event.
The Lions were able to fire in a first round score of 297, with senior Josh Kruzel (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) leading the way with and even-par 72. The performance had him tied for 5th place after the first 18-holes. Four of the five Lions delivered scores in the 70's on day one. Their 297 opening round was good enough that they headed into Sunday's final round in third place 6-strokes behind Thomas More and Hanover.
The Lions followed that up with a final-round team score of 295, led by sophomore Ethan McCarthy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) who fired in a career low round with a 4-under par 68 and a career 36-hole low of 142. David Dattilo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), Matt Paluga (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) and Frankie Hofmeyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) each delivered scores in the 70's during the second round. The Lions finished in a second-place tie with Hanover College, but beat out the Panthers based on a tie-breaker.
McCarthy finished as the Lions lone representative on the All-Tournament team, finishing the tournament with a 2-under par 142.
