Lions struggle out of the gate at Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Kentucky -- The Mount St. Joseph University men's golf team opened the 2018-19 season by traveling south to Lexington, Kentucky to take part in the Transylvania Fall Invitational. The Lions are looking for younger golfers to step up this season, as they graduated four of their regular top five from a season ago. Ethan McCarthy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) returns atop the lineup, and will likely be joined by Seniors Matt Paluga (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) and Josh Kruzel (Toledo, Ohio/ St. Francis DeSales) in the top five this season.

The trip to Lexington did not start out great for the Lions as they struggled out of the gate to a 330 team score, McCarthy was the only Lion to break 80 in round one. Despite the tough first round the Lions were able to improve by 11 shots in each of the next two rounds. Firing in a respectable final round 308, behind a 73 from McCarthy and 75 from Kruzel.

As a team the Lions finished 15th for the weekend, McCarthy was the highest finishing individual at 45th.
