TERRE HAUTE, Indiana – The Mount St. Joseph University Lions traveled to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to continue Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. In the Lions last game against the Fightin' Engineers, the Lions weren't able to come out with a victory. This game told much of the same story, with the Lions dropping the game with a final score of 67-52.
The Lions struggled offensively in the first half but managed to keep up with the Fightin' Engineers. Rose-Hulman took an early lead and the Lions struggled to catch up. Both teams went scoreless for almost five minutes which led to the Lions comeback late in the half. The Lions closed the gap with three minutes remaining and finished the half trailing the Fightin' Engineers 21-18. Devin Young (Crestwood, KY / South Oldham) led the charge on offense with seven points and four rebounds in the first half.
Both teams would pick up their offense in the second half. Rose-Hulman continued to build their lead throughout the half but the Lions found a way to keep the game close. The Lions brought the deficit within three points with 14 minutes remaining but Rose-Hulman went on a 10-2 run soon after. The Lions offense struggled to close out the second half and fell to the Fightin' Engineers by a final score of 67-52. Young erupted in the second half, scoring 17 of his 24 points to lead the Lions on offense.
The Lions (6-12, 4-7) will take on the Manchester Spartans this Saturday 1/25 at 5:00PM in the Harrington Center. This will be the second game of a double header at the Mount, following the women's match at 3:00PM. Continue to check MSJSports.com for more updates on the Lions 2018-19 season!
