Mike Shibinski enters his fifth season at Mount St. Joseph University as the Lions' Strength & Conditioning Coordinator. In addition to his duties for the football program, Coach Shibinski also serves as an adjunct professor at the Mount.
Coach Shibinski brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as football player and coach, as well as a Strength & Conditioning Coordinator. He has served as an assistant football coach and assistant / Head Strength & in Cincinnati High Schools for the last 35 years - serving as the Head Strength &Conditioning Coach for 21 of those years. His stops include Cincinnati Elder HS, Cincinnati Princeton HS, Cincinnati Academy of Physical Education High School, Cincinnati Moeller HS, and Mansfield Malabar High School. In his roles, Coach Shibinski has been part of 4 Ohio High School State Championship Teams in Football as an assistant in both football and Strength & Conditioning and been the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for Ohio High School State Championship Teams in wrestling, basketball, swimming and diving, track and field, baseball.
Prior to years at the High School level, Coach Shibinski served two years a Graduate Assistant Coach at the Ohio State University. He earned his Masters Degree from the Ohio State University in Strength and Conditioning after a successeful stint as a student-athlete at Butler University where he a four-year letterman for the Bulldogs football program. As a Defensive Back, Shibinski started 39 of 40 games, led the team in pass defense and interceptions all four years, was All-Conference performer, and captain for the Bulldogs. He earned his Bachelor Degree in Health and Physical Education from Butler University. Coach Shibinski is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NCSA) and instructor in Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction, and Quickness.
Coach Shibinski has was the Franklin B. Walter Outstanding Educator Award Winner from Ohio Department of Education and was a National Runner-Up in the NSCA Strength Coach of Year - High School Division. He has worked with numerous professional athletes in his time as a High School educator and coach. Among some of the players he's coached, Baseball Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr., current NFL RB Spencer Ware, and former NFL players Carlos Snow, Vinnie Clark, and Taver Johnson
Coach Shibinski has deep ties to the Mount. His mother taught at the Mount for 41 years and is a Hall of Fame member of MSJU Athletics for teaching, coaching, and administration. He is married to Cindy, who serves as a faculty member at the Mount in the Department of Education. The couple have two sons, Kyle and Drew. Drew will be attending the Mount in the fall of 2018 as a member of the Lions' football program. He resides in Cincinnati, OH.
