DAYTON BEACH, Florida -- Mount St. Joseph senior football players, Nolan Miller (Cincinnati, OH / Northwest High School) and Colby Webb (Huntington, WV / Spring Valley) received an honor that few Lions before them have received. The defensive duo was selected take part in The National Bowl. A game that features some of the best seniors from across the country. The game is held at Daytona Beach Stadium in Daytona Beach, Florida and serves as an opportunity for Division II, III and NAIA seniors to perform in front of thirty plus NFL and CFL scouts. The National Bowl is the only current post-season all-star game to focus on players below the Division 1 level.
Nolan Miller was elected first team all-conference for his 2017 campaign, ranking top five in the HCAC with 7 sacks and 12.5 tackles-for-loss, to go along with 38 tackles. Early in the first quarter on Sunday, Miller recorded an 11 yard sack and another sack-fumble in the third quarter. "We gave it our all, and had a lot fun soaking in the whole experience" Nolan stated after the game. Miller ended his career totaling 92 tackles, 10 sacks, and 3 interceptions, including a touchdown.
Receiving All-HCAC second team honors for this year was Colby Webb. Webb notched 53 tackles, 7 for loss of yards, a sack, forced fumble, and an interception. Late in the first quarter Webb made a tackle for no gain and later said, "It was a great experience playing in front of NFL and CFL scouts, very surreal". Webb started three years at linebacker for the mount, accumulating 128 tackles, 4 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, and 2 interceptions.
