Tomlin's record setting day leads Lions to victory over Anderson

ANDERSON, Indiana- It was a record setting day for the Lions offense as they traveled to take on Anderson University. Quarterback Chaiten Tomlin (Mt. Orab, OH/ Western Brown) led the offensive charge for the Lions. Tomlin played an unbelievable game for the Lions, completing 27 of 48 attempts for an even 500 yards and 9 touchdown passes. His 9 touchdown passes tied a 15 year old NCAA DIII record for touchdown passes in a game. The other records the Lions set were for total offense in a game (709 yards), passing yards in a game (500 yards), and total points (71).

The offense got off to a fast start against the Ravens. On the Lions first five drives of the game they scored four touchdowns, and a also a Jerry Porter (Cincinnati, OH/ Elder) field goal to jump out to a 30-0 lead in the first quarter. Anderson would answer with 13 unanswered points, before the Lions started their onslaught again. The Lions scored 10 more points before halftime carrying a 40-13 lead into the break.

The second half would be much of the same, the Lions would again score touchdowns on four of their first five drives of the second half. The defense played well in this one too allowing 27 points to Anderson, they did especially well in defending the Ravens rushing attack. On 26 rushing attempts the Lions did not allow a single yard rushing.

Tomlin spread the ball around extremely well in this one. Ten different Lions caught passes in the game, with six different receivers on the end of touchdown passes. The receiving core was led again by Grayson Roberts (Cincinnati, OH/ Reading) who had six catches for 164 yards and 4 touchdowns. Cooper Earls (Blue Ridge, GA/ Fannin County), A.J. Glines (Harrison, OH/ Harrison),  Kendall Sprowl (Indianapolis, IN/ Pike), Dushan Shepeard (Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral) and Nick Murphy (Dawsonville, GA/Dawson County) all were on the receiving end of a Tomlin TD pass. The Lions also sported a potent rushing attack in this game as Darius Pearson (Pickerington, OH/Pickerington Central) carried the ball nine times for 114 yards. It was Pearson's first career 100-yard rushing performance.

The Lions were led on defense by Saftey Peyton Williams (Cincinnati, OH/ Norwood) who registered 11 total tackles and a pass breakup. Dustin Applegate (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) added 8 total tackles, with 1.5 sacks and 2 tackles for a loss.

This was a dominating team performance for the Lions who will take the field again next weekend as they travel to Franklin College to take on the Grizzlies. The game is scheduled for a 1:30 PM kickoff follow MSJsports.com for all your Lions sports updates!
