INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Mount St. Joseph baseball team had a tough run in the 2019 season. They finished 10th in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. They finished the regular, going 9-24 with a 2-13 HCAC record. Despite their record the Lions fought hard every game and a Lion earned an honor from the conference in a release made today.
Designated hitter Tyrell Anderson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Western Hills) received a spot on 2nd team all-conference. Anderson was sidelined last season due to injury but returned this year and make his mark. Throughout the season he recorded a .325 batting average, 39 hits and 16 RBI's. We look forward to seeing what Anderson will contribute to the team in the next few seasons.
Junior Roman Rothwell (Monroe, Ohio/Monroe) became a member of the honorable mention conference team. He led the team this season with a batting average of .355, as well as, 41 hits and 19 RBI's. Rothwell has one season left for The Mount and we hope to see great things in his senior season.
The Lions also congratulate senior Simon Schaefer (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) who received HCAC receiving a spot on the All-Sportsmanship team for the 2019 season. This season he achieved a .288 batting average, 34 hits and 16 RBI's. Schaefer has been an integral of the Lions lineup over the last four seasons. His attitude and leadership will be missed next year.
Congrats to all of the players who received Conference Honors and we can't wait to see what the future holds. Thank you for a great season and check back in at MSJSports.com for updates on the 2020 season!
