Baseball splits with Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Lions split with the Earlham Quakers on Tuesday night, bringing their overall record to 13-13 and 4-5 in HCAC play. Game one was decided in the final inning as the Quakers scored 2 runs off multiple singles, resulting in a 4-3 final. The Mount took an early lead in game two and they stayed on top to finish the game with a final of 3-2.

Game 1

First on the board were the Lions off an RBI single from Luke Bowman (Harrison, OH / Harrison) in the fourth inning. Brandon Mueller (Cincinnati, OH / Northwest) also singled in the inning bringing home 2 more runs and extending the Lions lead to 3-0. Nathan Renner (Pleasant Prairie, WI / Tremper) striked out 4 Quaker batters through seven innings in his seventh appearance this season.

The Quakers answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth. Going into the ninth inning, the Lions had a 3-2 lead and secured a quick two outs. After a single and a walk, Addison Robertson would single for RBI and tie the score. Danny Dopp followed with another single and the walk-off victory over the Lions, 4-3.

Game 2

In the night cap the Lions reached base via the hit six times enroute to 3-2 Lions victory. Simon Schaefer (Cincinnati, OH / St. Xavier), Garrett Hogan (Hamilton, OH / Badin), and Trevor Theuerling (Cincinnati, OH / Clark Montessori) each recorded an RBI for the evening.

Brandon Shelton (Cincinnati, OH / Northwest) toed the rubber for the Lions in game two. Shelton tallied ten strikeouts and 1 earned run off 4 hits in six innings of pitching. Wyatt Myers (Waynesville, OH / Waynesville) came in for relief and pitched a perfect 3 innings, striking out 4 Quakers in the win.

Earlham was able to cross the plate in the fourth off a throwing error by the Lions and another run in the seventh.

The Lions return to action on the 18th in a non-conference matchup with Cincinnati Christian University. First pitch is scheduled at 6 PM.
